Great Blogs (Part II)
Last week as part of the WordCount Blogathon I posted a round-up of some of my favorite blogs. I realized I’d never be able to fit all of my favorites in a single post (I read a lot of blogs), so I decided to make Great Blogs a series here on Tastee Pudding. Today, I present the second installment.
Anonymous Works
This blog is just what the name suggests: a showcase of objects and art (and objects d’art!) that the blogger (Joey – no last name) encounters and finds of interest, for which no artist attribution is evident. There’s no background information on the stuff he features, no context…and that’s what I love about it. Visiting this blog is like wandering into a curio shop. You never know what you’ll find, and often, something you see will provide creative fodder.
Wired for Music
My husband, Jordan, is a technologist and musician, and his blog, Wired for Music, showcases his knowledge in both of these areas. Yes, I had to feature this one for the sake of my marriage (!), but Jordan really is a subject matter expert (more…)
The Comedy of Awkwardness
Last week I posted my video of my intentionally awkward Powerpoint presentation, “My Dog Cosmo.” My father in law wrote to me to say that he enjoyed it, and that it reminded him of a 1928 performance by humorist Robert Benchley, which was tantalizingly titled “The Treasurer’s Report.”
Watch the video of “The Treasurer’s Report,” below, and think of all the “comedy of awkward” in 2010, especially the comedy of the awkward nerd. And, of course, think back to Andy Kaufman, who made a career out of making you wonder what was real and what was an act. (more…)
Just So
I’ve always been sensitive to my environment. Strong sounds, sights and smells affect me more than your average bear. This can be a burden, as well as a gift — while it’s harder for me to tune out the smell of garbage or cigarette smoke in our apartment building’s hallway, the greenery of the park across the street fills me with joy, even though I see it every day.
Given this heightened sensitivity, you might think I like to keep my environment “just so.” In a sense, that’s true, but for me, “just so” means changing things with some frequency. (more…)
Creativity and Pig Entrails
The post below is by my friend and fellow blogger Katie Jett Walls, who writes over at One Per Week. We’re both participating in the 2010 Wordcount Blogathon, and today’s assignment was to swap blogs with someone; we chose each other. Awww….
My name is Katie, I’m a Fire Dragon, and I’ve been friends with Amanda since sometime along the way in our mutual flirtation with improvisation. We were briefly neighbors, and we’ve been drunk together on many nights. She gave me marvelous champagne flutes as a wedding gift. She writes, about her blog Tastee Pudding: “In the search for the creative life, the proof is in the pudding.”
I got to wondering how exactly how we came to say this phrase, “the proof is in the pudding” (maybe I only wondered because of fellow blogathon writer Joann Mason, who writes about the origins of English idioms). I sort of know what it means - it means you know a thing is good if it holds up to it’s promise, or if the experience lives up to the expectation.
I thought there might be more than that. (more…)
