Great Blogs (Part II)
Last week as part of the WordCount Blogathon I posted a round-up of some of my favorite blogs. I realized I’d never be able to fit all of my favorites in a single post (I read a lot of blogs), so I decided to make Great Blogs a series here on Tastee Pudding. Today, I present the second installment.
Anonymous Works
This blog is just what the name suggests: a showcase of objects and art (and objects d’art!) that the blogger (Joey – no last name) encounters and finds of interest, for which no artist attribution is evident. There’s no background information on the stuff he features, no context…and that’s what I love about it. Visiting this blog is like wandering into a curio shop. You never know what you’ll find, and often, something you see will provide creative fodder.
Wired for Music
My husband, Jordan, is a technologist and musician, and his blog, Wired for Music, showcases his knowledge in both of these areas. Yes, I had to feature this one for the sake of my marriage (!), but Jordan really is a subject matter expert - and he makes a mean playlist. (Note, his publishing schedule can be a bit erratic, so I’d suggest subscribing to his RSS feed – that way, you’ll be alerted whenever he posts something new.)
Wooster Collective
(See screen shot at top of post)
The definitive street art blog. I remember reading somewhere that Marc and Sarah Schiller started this blog because they saw street art disappearing from their Soho, NY neighborhood, and wanted to memorialize it; then, unexpectedly, they started receiving submissions from street art fans (and makers) all over the world.
Now the Schillers sort through tons of submissions and pick the best to feature on the blog. The art they feature is often thought-provoking and/or beautiful, and a window into human creativity across the globe.
(Note, I couldn’t find a good summary of the origins of Wooster Collective, so I apologize if I have some of this wrong; if you know a good article for me to link to, please let me know!)
Wish Jar
Artist Keri Smith blogs her life, but Wish Jar rises far above a typical “personal blog” because of the depth of her insights into everything from art to motherhood. Always thoughtful, never “I just posted this so I could post something,” and full of wonderful quotes and illustrations to boot.
EV Grieve
I just moved to the East Village and I really appreciate EV Grieve’s laser-like focus on neighborhood news — from big stories, like the recent fire at 14th Street and Avenue A, to softer stuff, like this morning’s post about NY Icy coming back to the ‘hood (complete with chocolate-bacon-flavored ice).
P.S. Am I the only one who thinks chocolate-bacon-flavored ice sounds disgusting?
Til next time…
